Paola Diana is a successful Entrepreneur, Author and Host of the YouTube Talk Show and Spotify Podcast “Unleashed. The Game Changers”. Paola challenges the ideologies of male supremacists at every opportunity and her bestselling book "Saving The World. Women: The Twenty-First Century's Factor for Change" combines the theories of sociology and history in order to show us where sexism and misogyny come from and how to end them. As a philanthropist, she is particularly focused on charities that benefit women and children, and those helping victims of domestic violence and abuse. She campaigns for better policies that can help to prevent these type of crimes which are still widespread in our societies.

At The Legacy Globe, we are collectively working alongside each other to leave lasting legacies which will empower future generations. How do you feel that your upbringing has shaped you?

I was lucky to be born in to a family where education was valued very much. My father was a doctor and a professor, and my mother was a teacher. I obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science, which gave me the opportunity to have a more open view on how society and politics work. I also studied History and learnt from incredible professors, and this gave me the perspective on how things were evolving, and how they should evolve. I strongly believe that each one of us can make a difference in the world, so it is very important to not only shape our community, but to shape our families and to leave behind our legacy and values. I also believe that my upbringing in a conservative and misogynistic family, with an abusively controlling father, has shaped the way I decided to differentiate myself from my parents. I chose to become a feminist, an entrepreneur, an independent and free woman. I wanted to have a family where the key values are communication, love and mutual respect.

You are creating a powerful legacy and are also highlighting the journeys of others through your show "Unleashed. The Game Changers." What do you think is the common denominator of success?

It is very important for me to leave a legacy and to help women to become empowered and fight for their rights. We cannot forget that our rights were only given to us recently and that they could be taken away, at any time. We are still not 100% equal to men. I am producing and promoting ‘Unleashed: The Game Changers’ a You Tube show and Spotify podcast, where I can highlight the lives and journeys of true game changers and highly inspiring people. I think that the common denominator of success is to believe in yourself and to not be afraid of risk. If you don’t try, you will never succeed.

Your bestselling book "Saving The World. Women: The Twenty-First Century's Factor for Change" is a passionate call for international gender equality. Please tell us about the experience of writing it.

My book is about what it says in the title, because saying the words women in the 20th century: fighting for change is what I truly believe in. I believe women, particularly feminists are already changing and saving the world for the better. Women, and their talents have been neglected for centuries, and millennia even. We need them if we want to save our planet, or create a more equal, sustainable society or a happier society. The way that women are treated really sets the standard of democracy and highlights to the world the way in which certain countries respect human rights. So, it is very important for me to keep talking about women’s rights and keep fighting in order to end violence and abuse towards women. This way we can create a better society, where men and children can also live a better life.

Why do you think it is important to give back as part of our legacies?

It is fundamental to give back. I think without purpose, our lives cannot be truly happy and fulfilled. I find great joy in giving back, and I was lucky to be born in Italy where I had a great education despite the challenges I faced. I feel lucky and grateful, I feel blessed. I want other girls and women, and men as well, to have a better life and to live in a better society. We all should fight indifference towards others who are suffering. Indifference is the antechamber of evil. We can’t be indifferent when other people are suffering, which is why until all women around the world will be free from abuse, violence and discrimination, we cannot stop fighting for women’s rights.

What does the word legacy mean to you and what legacy do you want to leave behind?

Legacy means leaving something behind you that is more important than yourself, and your physical existence. I hope that mine will change the lives of others and that I can make a difference. I hope to leave behind me a more equal world for girls and women.
